Pay and Tax

The Pupil Referral Service use Capita for our payroll services

PAY

Staff other then teachers are paid on National Joint Council scales. The full time hours for posts on NJC are 37 – If you are employed for less than 37 hours you will be classified as part-time and your salary will be pro-rata.

You will work 38 weeks per annum term time and 1 week per annum INSET (39 weeks) plus you will be paid holiday pay (this will be dependent on your service with Cumbria County Council) and this will be paid in your monthly salary in 12 equal installments on 28th of each month (July and December are paid early – normally on the day term ends).

Example:

If your final salary is £28,642 and you have 2 years service you will be paid for 44.65 week from 55.14 (39 weeks worked +5.65 holiday pay).

£28,642/52.14*44.65 = £25,076.85

If you then work 34.5 (93.24% of 37) hours from 37 you  will receive 93.24% of £25,076.85 so your gross salary will be £23,381.65

Teaching staff will be appointed to their Main Scale / Threshold salary on Teachers Pay and Conditions and will receive an additional SEN allowance (level depending on post-graduate qualifications).

TAX

It is important that we hold correct information about your tax code, to help us please complete the HMRC starter checklist.

Please let us have the P45 from your previous employer as soon as possible to avoid paying emergency tax.

Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS)

ALL posts are subject to Enhanced DBS with Children’s Barred list checks.

An Enhanced DBS check shows full details of a person’s criminal record such as cautions, reprimands, warnings, spent and unspent convictions. The check also searches the DBS Children’s Barred List to ensure the applicant is suitable for working with children.

Please complete the on-line DBS application.  Business Support will be notified once this has been completed and will complete the process by adding the forms of ID you provided at interview.

When you receive your certificate please join the update service (you will be reimbursed the £13 fee) and bring your certificate into the centre so that it can be verified.

All recruits are required to undertake medical clearance, the Pupil Referral Service use CHOOSE to carry the appropriate checks out on our behalf.  Please complete and return the Level II check unless otherwise advised.

Level I check (Only use if you have been advised)
