Careers Lead:  Michaela Kemp – 01229 407470 / Michaela.Kemp@cumbria.gov.uk

Hello and a warm welcome to South Cumbria Pupil Referral Service’s  information for employers, employees, education providers and training providers. This area has been designed to give you as much information as possible so that you can understand how you can support our students and to make a real difference in helping our students make choices about their future.

Our students are trying their best to make changes and to start on a new path with positive choices in behaviour and we need to be able to support them in choosing progression routes that are suited to their skills and talents. We feel that this develops students confidence which in turn equips our young people leaving to move in the modern workplace with the knowledge and skills for success. As part of students Careers education we feel that it is vitally important  that engagement with employers, work places and education/training providers is paramount in supporting children making such important choices. Here you can find some suggestions about events and activities employers (including education/training providers) can contribute to:

  • Represent your business or establishment at the school’s World of Work Day in November
  • Provide a mock interview for a Year 11 students can be arranged to suit your time and commitments
  • Offer work experience placements to students in Years 10 or 11- this can either be a one off of a few days, a week or an extended placement for a student with a particular talent in the field
  • Give a presentation or a talk to a class about your business, the careers you offer or about skills that you value in the workplace
  • Giving time for mentoring sessions on key skills e.g. CV writing, letters of application, interview skills
  • Offer a project or competition for students with support (see Stollers and Morgan Sindall past events)
  • Come in and visit some lessons and meet some of the school staff and students
  • Provide labour market information for students, staff, parents
  • Contribute sponsorship e.g. for prizes or for equipment
  • Join our Management Committee

If you would be interested in providing any of the above or just want to have a chat about an ideas or support you feel you could give please do get in touch
